The MIDAS Award for the Environment

The winner was:

 Park Cakes- Oldham, Greater Manchester

Park Cakes in Oldham has been based at its current site since 1958. Five bakeries produce a variety of cake products including celebrations and novelty cakes, egg custards, flapjacks and Swiss Rolls. The company has recently launched a new Environmental Management System which is already reaping rewards for both the environment and the business.

It includes a newly lagged chocolate tank, reducing electricity consumption by 390, 700 kwh per year; 416 tonnes per year of cardboard is bailed and recycled, water- saving nozzles are installed on all hose pipes; 500 tonnes of food waste is recycled annually, and staff are fully trained in relevant environmental issues.
